A therapist got in touch with an query about confidentiality in relation to a teenage ex-patient who had initially attended for help with a cannabis habit, which was built on a basic lack of confidence. Matters had been seriously exacerbated by persistent bullying from a local gang of girls. The therapist went on to explain:-
Today, the ex-patient’s mother contacted me because the Council is wanting to re-house the girl in the vicinity of those same bullies. The mother wants me to write something to say she came for treatment for her confidence, because she was being bullied by these girls.
I explained that it was the patient herself who would need to make the request because of confidentiality reasons, but that I’m also not sure how much I could help. I’m not sure this is any of my business and whether I should get involved in any way or not.
