I would be surprised if many members had not come across the occasional patient who, when nearing the end of their treatment, says something along the lines of:-
“I don’t know if it is just psychological, but I really do feel more confident” (or less depressed/anxious)
Often they then look sheepish as they realise the meaning of the words they have just uttered.
I was reminded of these people when I read in the Daily Telegraph (28/2/98):-
“People are not really frightened of going to the dentist, they only think they are.”
