Sticks and Stones

I expect that most of us have heard, when very young, the rhyme: “sticks and stones may break my bones, but hard words never harm me.”

Any well-known phrase or couplet is repeated as if it was gospel but the above is probably the most untruthful of any well-known saying.

Words are the most damaging and painful thing that one person can inflict on
