Volunteer P – OCD Treatment

IMR was slow, tiny and often unnoticeable but eventually this volunteer patient succeeded in treatment in front of the students. This treatment transcript shows how reassurance, reminders, prompts and gentle nagging enabled the fingers to keep providing the information required. This session also provides an example of one way to proceed towards the Belief if the Reason has been established as ‘Punishment’.

The following is a transcript of a recording of one session with a volunteer patient, provided in front of the students on the Practical Course, Autumn 2008.

Patient ‘P’ suffered severe OCD. Her IMR was minute throughout the treatment, requiring constant reminders and repeating of questions.

The following treatment transcript is provided for two purposes – firstly, it illustrates how gentle reminders and prompts were used to ensure treatment could still be successfully completed; and, secondly as an example of one of the ways of progressing when ‘punishment’ is the major purpose/reason for a symptom.
